How I Work

Therapy is a place where I invite you to come and receive support, to be yourself as you are—heart open or heart-broken, angry, sad, or confused.
Jeanne Sutton, LMFT - Burlingame Therapist - Teletherapy in CA

There are many reasons to seek help for your healing process.

I specialize in helping clients with the following difficulties:

My Approach

I specialize in self-actualization: the complete realization of one’s potential and the full development of one’s abilities and appreciation for life.

I help my clients find emotional freedom, cultivate personal growth, become self-empowered, develop fulfilling relationships, and deepen their spiritual relationship to life.

I take a positive approach that builds on your strengths.

My clinical perspective is rooted in person-centered psychotherapy and the non-dual Buddhist wisdom tradition that holds to the understanding that we all have an inner wisdom that is clear, compassionate, whole, and unbreakable, no matter what we’ve been through or done.

I draw upon my many years of clinical experience and in-depth meditation and study to support clients to heal and flourish, helping them to reclaim their natural born freedom and joy.

Ready to free your life?

I use many modalities, including evidence-based therapies:

Mindfulness and Meditation is the foundation of our work together. Mindfulness is the art of paying attention to experience, on purpose, without judgment.

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a mindfulness-based form of cognitive-behavioral therapy. Its main goals are to teach people how to live in the moment, develop healthy ways to cope with stress, regulate their emotions, and improve their relationships with others. DBT involves learning new skills in session and practicing them outside of the office. It’s worth it! I’ll show you how.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is another mindfulness-based form of behavioral therapy that helps us live more in-sync with our values. It helps us to be present, open up, and do what matters, even when it scares us. This can help free us from the grip of anxiety and depression so that we are more able to create an authentic life.

Gottman Method Therapy comes from Drs John and Julie Gottman and their decades of research on what makes romantic partnership work. I use the behavioral principles and skills derived from the Gottman Method in my work with individual clients to help them improve their relationship with their partners outside of couple’s therapy.
*I do not see couples in my practice at this time  but will be happy to refer you to a couple’s therapist should you want or need that additional form of support.

Voice Dialogue and Parts of Self-Work are methods used to come into a more conscious and empowered dialogue with our inner “voices” that are constantly chattering to us in the background. These “voices” belong to the various parts of our personality: our Selves. By learning how to get curious about our Selves, speak to our Selves with love and compassion, resolve our inner conflict, and meet our needs in a loving way, we can experience a great improvement in our mental health and wellbeing.

Positive Psychology Therapy is a method that can help us bring our attention, expectation, and memory away from the negative, and it can help us refocus and connect to our positive emotions and character traits.

Other modalities that I also use: Expressive Arts Therapy, SoulCollage, The Work of Byron Katie, and Continuum Movement.
